The eight-day feast of Hanukkah commemorates a miracle that occurred during the Jewish Maccabean revolt against the Syrians in 165 B.C. After rededicating the Temple, Judas Maccabeus relit the Temple’s lampstand, which burned for eight days with only one day’s amount of oil.
