Who was Luke? A Jewish physician from Alexandria. It was the Jubilee year and the land was being returned to its rightful owner.
Luke 24: 1 Jesus expounded in all the scriptures things concerning himself.
Only the poor in spirit can see him / know him. As long as we are full of self, we are not poor.
Counting the Omer – they emptied themselves of everything they thought was good.

The (true) Lord’s prayer
John 17: 1 – 12   If the world doesn’t hate you, you’re not a disciple.
John 15: 18
John 16: 1 – 2
John 17: 14 – 26
What creates a disciple is continuing with him in his temptation. We continue with him in his test, no longer our test. You’ll only know when you are fully tested.
There was no doubt that the world hated them.
You are a threat to every theology / system / belief in the universe.
We don’t understand the massive humility of the Father. He won’t occupy where you are. Don’t ever justify yourself…always take the lower seat.

Matt 23: 1 – 39
Jesus told these hardest of sayings to his disciples and to the multitudes, including the Pharisees and scribes. All were followers of one or the other.
These hard sayings apply to us all. We must all see our need to celebrate Passover – our neediness.
Jesus wasn’t just talking to the scribes and Pharisees, we must all see that what we have to say is as important as what the teacher says, even if we are loathe to say it – or it is hard to confess.

Neither Mark nor Luke were disciples
Mark 14: 43 – 52 Mark’s account of the young man / boy fleeing naked from the soldiers, he was probably that person
Mark 10: 17 – 23  (note – scholars almost universally believe this rich young ruler was Lazarus)
Mark 10: 23 – 30  Poor has to do with those who no longer gain sustenance or satisfaction from the world. Norman Grubb said simply, “God can’t use you unless you fail.”
Mark 11: 1 – 26  We all think the kingdom has something to do with us but it’s the opposite, the loss of self-awareness.

Matt 22: 1 – 14  The fellow cast out had no idea why. He lacked repentance. This parable is meant to cause repentance in us.
Rev 19: 1 – 2  Babylon is the largest religion of the world. It is cause and effect. The whore of Babylon is the wife of Satan.
Phil 3: 18 – 19
Jesus is not our role model. We die, he lives in us.

Why did love to Jesus turn to hate before the Passover?
What happened to anger everyone leading to Passover?
Zech 9:9
Luke 19: 28 – 33 – 44; 45 – 48  Jesus tossed out those who were buying and selling in the temple
Luke 20: 1 – 18  The wicked husbandmen parable

Theology of the cross vs. the theology of glory
Never called themselves Christians because that would be taking the Lord’s name in vain/ buildings were not churches, the people were the churches/ In AD 64 the believers were accused of starting the fire in Rome (they thought it might be the end and threw their belongings on the fire). Their allegiance was not to Nero and the persecutions were especially bad in Rome.
Matt 5:2   No satisfaction with world system
Mystery of timelessness
Eccl 3: 1   No longer giving importance to the next minute is or comes from the preaching of the cross, seeing the futility of giving importance to anything in time and space
Preaching of the cross is God’s power, it causes you to be an enemy of the world.
There’s no middle ground.

The “1st Passover”
Ole relates talmud story of Abraham and Isaac’s trip to Mt. Moriah to sacrifice Isaac and what their minds were telling them, the test of faith.
Abraham defined truth – anything that changes with time, space or agency cannot be truth.
True meaning of Passover. The test doesn’t start until we stop believing in our minds. The mystery of timelessness / the covenant didn’t change with time, it was an expanding revelation of the covenant.
Matt 20:20
